Information Technology and Travel
Information technology has revolutionised travelling in so many ways that it made going to other cities or countries easier, faster and more convenient. The concept of automated booking systems dates back to 1946. It was dubbed as the Computerized Reservation System or CRS, which was then only used in airlines to store booking data. With just a few decades after its first introduction, millions of people all over the world now have the ability to use automated booking systems or online booking right in the comfort of their own homes by using their personal computers or laptops and Internet connectivity.
Today, with online booking, the public now have the ability to act as their own travel agent as they are able to choose the packages that perfectly suit their needs and budget. Aside from that, consumers now have the ability to compare prices of hotels, flights and the like with the use of the Internet. Online travel companies have their own computer system to access the data stored by consumers themselves and are being updated automatically into their database. As a result, people are now able to travel faster and much easier than it was a decade or two ago. Presently, more and more innovations are being developed to improve the travel industry. As a result, the online booking system has become more streamlined and more efficient in its products and services. Consequently, consumers are more receptive to the benefits of the role of the information technology to making the travel industry more effective in making life easier for all travellers.
